As employees we must realize that our employers may not be agreement with an action that we might have taken on the job. We must be open to constructive criticism, that's how we learn and are able to make better future decisions.
However what's not acceptable employers is shouting and belittling a nanny in the public (or anywhere). This type of behavior is disrespectful no matter how frustrated you are.
Think about this- What if the nanny spoke to your child that way? This too would be wrong, right? So why do you think it's right to embarrass your nanny while onlookers stare in disbelief? If striping someone of their human dignity makes you feel better about yourself, then perhaps you may want to visit that and examine your own insecurities.
Yes, nannies and nanny employers will disagree but what we can forget is that we must be respectful. #nannylife ... See MoreSee Less
Happy Wednesday! Some of you will encounter some nanny employers who have preconditioned views about nanny work. The truth is that some maybe oblivious about the everyday duties of a nanny. Is it possible that a small percentage of nanny employers still see nanny work as what is was during America's most sinful and dark days?
I just had a nanny tell me how stunned she was when her new employer showed her the door that she was supposed to use to the dining room area when she "serve" the family dinner. She also had to ensure that dinner was served at the same time everyday.
This aspect of that job was never discussed with the nanny during the interview process. Additionally what bothered her ever more is when he kept referring to his previous nanny as "the maid."
I believe we have alot of work to do about educating society about nanny work.#nannylife ... See MoreSee Less
A nanny job although it's very rewarding in many ways it's very demanding. Truthfully, it's a hard job! What makes it even harder is when a nanny works for parents who have unrealistic expectations or those who are just disrespectful and mean.
Nannies, I know that we all need our jobs however we know when it's time to leave a very stressful job- the problem is we ignore that fact! I know that some of you are hesitant about leaving a nanny job because of the love you have for your charge and although that's admirable, you can't provide effective care while under immense stress. There are really good families eager to hire good nannies. Please do not stay in any job where you are devalued and disrespected. #nannylife ... See MoreSee Less
